Medico-Legal Expertise

Dr Hunt has been providing specialist psychiatric medico legal reports for more than 10 years. These have been for both criminal and civil matters and he has appeared in court as an expert witness when required. He is a founder member of the Society of Expert Witnesses http://www.jspubs.com/Experts/register/reg_index.cfm and has been trained in the reforms in the civil procedure rules.

The proportion of reports for plaintiff : joint : defendant has been 60 : 30 : 10 over the last two years.

His work often involves those who are detained under the Mental Health Act. He is also on the Eastern Region section 12 approval panel (and was chairman for five years) which assesses doctors as to their suitability for recommending compulsory treatment in hospital. He has been involved with organising and contributing to training doctors in the use of the Mental Health Act.
